Buzzin Fly'

Today I'm in a bit of a techy mood, and i thought i really should post something seeing as its been well over a week since any of us did a post.
I've mostly been listening to tracks from the latest Buzzin Fly compilation, '5 Golden Years in the Wilderness'. Which is well worth a purchase, i think its like nine pounds on amazon for three unmixed cds of pure housey goodness, with amazing tracks from Justin Martin, Ben Watt (The Label Boss of Buzzin' Fly), Radio Slave's epic remix of Mlle Caro and Franck Garcia's 'Dead Souls'. The Third cd is entitled 'Forward' and features lots of new stuff that the label is/will be releasing such as Gavin Herhily's 'Give Me A Funf' and Stimming's 'Kleine Nachtmusik'.
I never really heard much from the label until i bought this cd on a whim last week, with only the Charles Webster remix of Justin Martin's 'The Sad Piano' really being known to me (It featured on M.A.N.D.Y's At the Controls cd, which is still one of the greatest mix compilations i have ever heard). But the songs in this collection veer from deep, soulful house that works equally well in the club as it does when its just there in the background, to jacking bumpy stuff like Darkmountaingroup's 'Lose Control'.
The whole package is completed by the artwork and design of the compilation, which is beautifully presented like the vinyl 12"s that Buzzin' Fly put out. I think it was the artwork that made me decide to buy the compilation, because its kinda nice to have cd based stuff be as obviously cared for as the vinyl equivalent. Too many cd's just look like they were bashed together in five minutes, and it makes it that much easier to just download some of the tracks or whatever if it seems like no care has gone into the work.
Anyway this is getting to be a bit too much of a sales pitch for my liking but anyway, i would highly recommend picking up this compilation, or, if you prefer mixes to unmixed stuff, there are four previous Buzzin Fly compilations that are mixed and all are available on amazon or whatever.

I'm also going to post one of the tracks from the first cd which contains the older tracks, as i wouldn't want to post something that hasn't been released yet or anything. It's the track i mentioned previously, Charles Webster's remix of Justin Martin's 'The Sad Piano'

Death From Above

Two posts today? Madness.

Anyway, rather than tell you something about the usual suspects, i wanted to take an ever so slight detour by talking about my favourite record label, DFA.

I loved the rapture, and the first time i saw them at my second ever gig in January 04, they were amazing. I became a bit of a mad fan, and got their first album, and both their EPs, and i think i spent like 16 quid on the Mirror EP from hmv. Which is kind of a lot for like six tracks. They are all awesome, however so i wasnt too upset about that.

My frantic Rapture collecting led me to the DFA Compilation 2 which contained an old Rapture track called Alabama Sunshine, which kicks total ass also. This DFA mix started my four year love affair with this awesome label, which kind of sagged for a while after they put out the amazing Gavin and Delia album which contained four songs that were all like 10 minute + Synth workouts. So Good.

But now, with the release of the new Syclops album 'I've got my eye on you' and of course the Hercules and Love Affair cd that i somehow dont own yet plus cool as fuck releases from new boys Holy Ghost, Free Blood and others, it seems this label is back with a vengeance.

I will eventually try and get around to posting the odd track from DFA, but to be honest, they are well known enough for them to get by without a ton of promotional tracks, and most of the magic of these releases is probably lost with a ton of mp3s.

http://www.beatsinspace.net/ is a website ran by Tim Sweeney, the third man and second Tim in the DFA machine. On this site you can subscribe to the Beats in Space podcasts which i have been checking out recently and are AWESOME.

I was going to post an old Syclops track, but as i heard the amazing Adventures Close To Home remix of 'Never Hear Surf Music Again' by Free Blood did not make it to the final vinyl release (i believe it was a remix by some disco dudes called Barfly that did make it) i think i shall post it instead.

Tuesday means its simpsons time

Yeah i decided when we started this blog that it wasn't gonna be all mixes and white hot XXXclusives. Also want to pour my love on something that has already been mentioned so many times that its practically engrained into our veins. Or something similarly weird.

I am talking about The Simpsons, of course.

Basically all three of us are ridiculous Simpsons fans. I think i am not alone in saying that whenever we get in from work with nothing to do the Simpsons dvds are put on while we fall asleep. We also constantly quote from this, the greatest tv show ever made, all the time.

As i have been watching the 'Mom and Pop Art' episode from season 10, im going to go with an underrated quote from everyones favorite bed wetting nerd, Millhouse, AKA Thrillhouse.

'Oh, I hate these flood pants'

(water from homer flooding springfield rushes into his bedroom)
'Hey, theyre working!'
'My feet are soaked, but my cups are bone dry.

Everythings coming up Millhouse!'

Season 10 Episode 19
Gotta say though, Season 10 is where it all started going slowly downhill

Its still amazing though. Unlike family guy. Ahem.

Ziggy

(This is the first of two posts today. The other one with concern my current love for DFA records, Tim Sweeney and a new band called Free Blood)

welcome, to the world of tomorrow

Hey people, first post time on the new blog from the three ket-house-teers. Whilst we believe there are some truly great blogs out there, such as the mighty fluokids and my personal favourite, nosebloodelectro, there are far too many blogs that have got caught in the lazy trap of posting the same sub par blog stuff over and over again. No, we don't want the latest kid cudi outtake where he's freestylin' about his momma on youtube. No, we don't want a remix of D.A.N.C.E by some LA producer with no vowels in his name. im sure you see where we're going with this.

But blogs can be a great resource both for promotion and for opening peoples eyes with regards to amazing producers and dj's that often get forgotten about when the next big flavor of the month rolls through.

We are going to take a slightly different approach to this than many of the other blogs we see. Each of us is going to post a mix every two weeks or so, and also post one track from that mix that we really like and want to share with all of y'all. The three of us will keep all of our individual mixes posted and i will try and organise them into three separate sections so that its easy to keep track of where our personal tastes are headed and to see which tracks we post.

There will be more posts coming in, with probably a couple a week, and we'll soon introduce segments about particular nights out that are coming up and the like.

First things first, heres the first mix for BigBabyWheezus, from myself.
